Pole Position for JMR at Goodwood'
“I cannot thank you enough for the quality of motor you built for us for the Members Meeting: the hard work and dedication both yourself and Alvin put in to make sure the motor would perform reliably on sustainable fuel and eke out every bit of performance possible.”
— Jim Morris
So, after an amazing pole position qualifying at Goodwood we had a tough race during the 2025 Win Percy Trophy when the Morris Vulcan Golf GTi of Jim Morris and Andre Lotterer lost 5th gear selection.
The Escort RS2000 of Kerry Michael and Jake Hill had a better launch off the line to lead into the first corner and throughout lap 1, but was relentlessly chased down until the start of lap 2, when Jim used the might of the JMR 8v to power past and into the lead, and continued to pull out a 4 second gap over the first half dozen laps.
With the next 24 laps having to be completed with a major loss of top speed potential, the 1600cc Golf was asked to give more than would ever be imagined lap after lap.
Upon change over during the pit stop, Andre was advised to feather the throttle back once 9000rpm was reached, but of course during battle that went out the window, with Andre admitting to me after to have used 9500 – on occasion!
The three time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner pushed the reigning BTCC champion with all he had underneath him and more, achieving the fastest lap along the way, only 0.5 of a second off his qualifying time when all five gears were present!
The result: 2nd overall, and only 0.8 seconds behind the hard charging RS2000 at the flag: I'll take that when I'd never have dreamed of powering a car on the Goodwood grid 12 months before.
Whilst the win would have naturally been pretty special, we're not at all disappointed overall after the titanic battle we took to the eventual winner.Of course 2026 is the 50th anniversary of the Golf GTi…
A massive thank you goes to Jim Morris for putting faith in JMR power for one of the biggest historic events in the UK, and to Andre Lotterer for trying to stretch the conrods.

Testimonal
“The Golf starts with a damaged fifth gear. The engine builder says that I can rev to the limiter (8000rpm) and beyond by about three seconds. Oil on the track is a challenge and reduces lap times by about two seconds. We are mixed in with Jags but I start 4th in my class and finish 4th in my class”. SIMON JEFFS
